چکیده

A new type of floating breakwaters (FBs) is introduced by changing the longitudinal section of π-shaped FBs into a stepwise shape. The hydrodynamic performance of so-called step floating breakwaters (SFBs) is evaluated through 144 experiments on SFBs of different types as well as π-shaped FBs. Initially, using the experimental data, the performance of SFBs was evaluated by comparison against π-shaped FBs with similar width and draft depths. The experimental data were then used to develop a model for predicting transmission coefficient of SFBs through Support Vector Machines. The accuracy of this model was assessed through statistical indices like Correlation Coefficient and Root Mean Square Error and was found to be satisfactory. The experimentally obtained data which were further extended using the developed model were utilized for assessing the performance of SFBs when various geometrical and hydrodynamic parameters changed.

In the current study, the step floating breakwaters were under consideration to improve the π type floating breakwater performance. By means of physical modeling 180 experiments were carried out in the wave flume for different geometric and hydrodynamic parameters including 2 and 3 step FBs. Result were then compared with standard π type FB with the same width. To be able to compare experimenta...

Genetic algorithm based support vector machine regression in predicting wave transmission of horizontally interlaced multi-layer moored floating pipe breakwater

Planning and design of coastal protection works like floating pipe breakwater require information about the performance characteristics of the structure in reducing the wave energy. Several researchers have carried out analytical and numerical studies on floating breakwaters in the past but failed to give a simple mathematical model to predict the wave transmission through floating breakwaters ...

Investigating the effect of using a Lateral duct in the body of a floating breakwater by numerical method

Floating breakwaters are good alternative to the so-called fixed base breakwaters, which, in addition to having the main purpose of protecting the beach from waves, also maintain the water connection between the sea and the protected area. Researchers in order to increase the efficiency and increase the performance range of floating breakwaters, have done many researches on their effective para...

THE USAGE OF ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS IN HYDRODYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF FLOATING OFFSHORE PLATFORMS

Floating offshore structures, particularly floating oil production, storage and offloading systems (FPSOs) are still in great demand, both in small and large reservoirs, for deployment in deep water. The prediction of such vessels’ responses to her environmental loading over her lifetime is now often undertaken using response-based design methodology, although the approach is still in its...
